Attic Apartment
This attic maisonette apartment located in Bratislava old town is characterised by a diversity of interior spaces and atmospheres, which together create a home for a young family. The flat layout is largely dictated by the shape of the roof and the location of the entrance to this apartment. In the heart of the floor plan is the main living space, kitchen, dinning room and the reading nook, which takes advantage of the entire ceiling height with the exposed timber trusses. The wooden beams are restored to their original colour and finish. Fine white structure of the plaster, oak flooring, and the terracotta shade of paving in the conservatory form the base of a balanced material palette for this design. Natural oak or matte black oak bespoke furniture pieces are complemented with lighting in simple geometrical forms.
One of the most significant interventions is the creation of a winter garden in the centre of the apartment. It brings soft natural light to the bedroom and the office, and at the same time makes the roof terrace accessible with the help of a spiral staircase. The design worked with the idea of spacial richness, changing atmospheres and practical details. Whether it is the wide wooden steps by the corner window, the home jungle conservatory, or the interior opening with shutters above the kitchen, ideal for peeking out from the children´s room, they all enhance the family´s comfort living.
