Residential Building Bratislava
On a narrow plot we follow the street line. Along the whole street this line is segmented by gaps with views into the courtyards. It maintains both strictness and flexibility. This principle also informs the shape of the house we designed. It employs the concept of a avant-corps—creating a relief on the facade that reduces the scale of the building and relates it to the scale of the surrounding environment. The street itself has a distinctive character; on the eastern side, it intersects with Kukoreli Park, drawing greenery into the street, which continues on both sides. Another characteristic feature is the presence of a fenced front garden, greenery, and set-back buildings that define the street's character. We draw from this specific street character in our design. The relationship between the building and the street is crucial for us, and we pay close attention to its detailed resolution. We focus on emphasizing entrances, placing greenery, and designing the fencing itself.
The facade of the building is divided into individual modules. These modules are projected and shaped according to the floor plan, where the functionality of the interior spaces is reflected in the exterior form. A significant portion of the southern facade is composed of protruding (cantilevered) terraces, which provide passive shading and a subtle filter from the street. In the upper part of the structure, we created several recesses, which form spacious roof terraces. The building is cladded in ceramic tiles. For the cladding, we alternate the scale in the details of the window and door frames or window lintels. The details are complemented by prefabricated sills and delicate metalwork. The residential building consists of two underground and six upper floors. Given the length and orientation of the structure, the optimal solution is to use three vertical cores, each with its own entrance. On the ground floor, facing the street, apartments with front gardens are located, separated from the street with fences and greenery. The rear section contains storage spaces and the building's amenities. On the typical floor, the primary composition of mixed-use apartments is located, complemented by larger apartments on the recessed floors. The underground floors contain parking facilities, accessed via an elevator on the western side of the plot. Here we also propose a small community room, lit by a patio, as well as storage and technical spaces.
