New Office Building for the Government Office of the Slovak Republic

We intervene in the space of the baroque Lippay Garden of the Government Office (GO) with a clear geometric form. By doing so, we complement the existing objects of the palace and the pavilion of the GO and facilitate a new relationships between them. The scale of the garden supports the placement of a linear pavilion with a facade transparent enough to let the park in and at the same time mirror the park from the outside. The facade edge facing the park follows the street line of Čajkovského street. The circular service road is moved under the building in the form of a drive-through ramp. This allows us to acquire more greenery around the perimeter of the building and at the same time bring the building closer to the park without collision.

A symmetrical floor plan works on the basis of clear and transparent principles. The offices use the entire outer perimeter of the facade with great flexibility according to the requirements of individual departments. All service and communication areas are located within the building. The object is perforated by three atriums. The central atrium connects to the entrance lobby and is a dynamic space that supports communication and interactions inside the building. The other two sensory atriums bring greenery into the plan and provide contact with nature for users based on the principles of biophilic design. We use greenery as a repetitive principle of park-reflection-interior, which is a metaphor for translating the park into the interior of the building. The individual functional units on the ground floor are clearly divided. Dining room with a mezzanine level is connected to the exterior. NBAC as a separate unit has a clear controlled entrance and a functional back of the house. Everything together forms a functional proposal, with a form which does not draw too much attention, but hides a rich and lively world inside.
